We can attempt this, however it is not always totally successful, as it depends on the texture of the scar tissue, and whether or not it will accept pigment in the same way as surrounding skin. Most older scars that are not raised anymore can be tattooed over fairly successfully – many people do have scars in their eyebrows, and cosmetic tattoo can often be used to cover these or gaps where hair is no longer growing.
We cannot tattoo over a scar that is not completely healed – the skin will need to have returned to its normal colour and not have any residual redness. This will be a minimum of one year after the initial injury, however, may be more where the scar is deeper. We encourage you to seek the opinion of your treating physician regarding a time frame for healing.
