Over time, brow tattoo has a tendency to fade, and in some cases, pigment tones will fade unevenly, leaving the old tattoo, a little ashy/grey, or in some cases, a little too warm. We don’t typically see this with our pigments – normally they just fade to a lighter version of themselves, however UV exposure and some medications can cause brows to fade out cooler or warmer than desired.
When we retouch our own work – sometimes years down the track – we will always colour correct if it is needed, to balance and ashy or overly warm tones, and this is a very simple process.
If you have had tattoo done elsewhere, and the colour has faded to an odd colour, it really depends on the level of saturation as to whether we can correct it or not. An old tattoo that is still highly saturated with pigment (particularly blueish black tones) can be very hard to correct – as the colour of as the old pigment will always show through the new tattoo. We see this more frequently in tattoo done overseas, where we are not as familiar with the inks used, and very high pigment density (think very bold /black brow tattoo) may have been more of a style trend in recent years.
Colour correction on a very faded tattoo can usually be done without too much difficulty. If you are unsure, the best way forward is to send us some photos of your brows, as well as details of your last treatment and we can assess it and respond to you as to our advice. We are always willing to help if we feel we are capable and can actually improve the brows, but in some cases, a laser removal is the best first step.
